Indyia's Bio

Hi Hello!

My name is Indyia, and my favorite color is pink. I’m an Art Foundation student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and after Art Foundation I plan on majoring in Art Education. I recently just transitioned to my natural hair after having a relaxer for several years. I’m super excited about my new afro, so if you have afro-textured hair, feel free to come to me for tips on how to care for your hair on campus!

Some little goals of mine are to learn how to play bass guitar and maybe even start a band before I graduate. Being an art major, I've received lots of questions from family, friends, and friends of the family about what I'm going to do with my degree. The only answer I have is that I've always really loved art, in music, cinematography, poems, and even food. In my eyes, art is a big part of our lives, and it's important because it unifies us as human beings. With my degree and teaching certificate, I want to teach children how to use their emotions, thoughts, and surroundings to create art.

Besides art, I love candles, ice cream, and anything made of fleece. As I pack up the things I love, I realize how prepared I am to move mentally and how silly all my fears about moving were. I think the university intimidated me in the beginning because I wasn’t sure I would be able to handle all the opportunities being thrown my way. Although I was a little anxious, I know that I'm going to have a great time at Illinois, and I hope by documenting my experiences and giving tips that other scared people out there will also see there’s nothing here to be afraid of.

Peace out!
