Jake's Bio
Hi, my name is Jake. I am a junior studying natural resources and environmental sciences in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES). Within my major, my concentration is forest science. I am originally from small, rural Pleasant Ridge High School near the town of Easton, Kansas.
One hot, August morning in 2005, my whole family piled into the car for a tour of something like 10 universities (from Big Ten institutions to small colleges to those in between) in a little over a week. One of the first stops, the University of Illinois, immediately caught my attention: great town, great campus, great people. To make a long story short, I eventually ended up here after making the seven-hour drive numerous times in the next year, each time to be more impressed by the prestigious academics, top-notch faculty, and the Illinois tradition.
On campus, I find myself involved as an undergraduate research assistant, a member of the Illini Foresters (a group geared towards those interested in forestry, but open to anybody who loves the outdoors), the Campus Honors Program, and the James Scholar program in the Colleges of ACES. As a former member of the Fighting Illini Varsity Football Team (during my freshman year), I am now active at one of the two recreation centers on campus and enjoying many intramural opportunities.
My goal in this blog is simple. I am grateful to the University of Illinois for the experience of a lifetime, and I hope to capture this experience in writing so that you too will be able to have the opportunity to experience the inspirations and joys of attending this University.
