I a (hopefully) incoming out of state freshman from Georgia. I recently got my financial aid letter, but I was wondering how I would apply for an appeal, or go about asking if there are still merit scholarships I could apply for. What is the courtesy for asking them all this? Do I call them or email them? I read somewhere that scholarships aren’t added onto the letter at this point. Should I wait to see if I am receiving any? But won’t it be too late by then? Please reply. Thank you!

What is the average cost per course for an Illinois resident?

March 17, 2015, 12:18 pm

Hello John,

My least favorite thing would be the winter weather. However, that is more so of a midwest dilemma.

In terms of the showers, it just depends on the residence hall. All of the residence hall bathrooms require a key for entry. I would recommend checking out for more information.

Hello Maddie,

That is a great question for our Housing Office: as there are several factors to consider when students choose rooms.

March 17, 2015, 3:05 pm

Hello George,

You can learn more about cost breakdown by visiting our Registrar’s page:

Is it better for freshmen to live in university halls or live in private certified halls?

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of living in a private certified house?

How many freshmen live in private homes?

I would greatly appreciate your input.

Thank you

How does the housing selection process work? Is it according to how soon you accept admission and pay the deposit or is it a random draw after all the acceptances are in?

Thanks so much!

March 25, 2015, 7:07 pm

I was just wondering, when will we be notified on our admission decisions for the James Scholar Honors program.

March 26, 2015, 4:57 am

Is it possible to get out of an early decision agreement with UIUC? If so, what must be done?

March 26, 2015, 10:15 am

Hello Mike,

We encourage students to maintain or improve upon the grades they had when applying. I strongly encourage to do everything in your power to keep your grades up senior year. If too many of them fall too low, it is possible that your offer of admission could be rescinded. If you want to learn more, please call our office at 217.333.0302.

March 26, 2015, 10:16 am

Hi Blake,

I am an international student from india, The last date for reporting for international students for fall 2015 is Aug 19. hence when is it advisable to reach the campus. If i reach 5-6 days earlier would it help.

also my major is Cs , so what housing is recommended.

March 30, 2015, 9:12 am

Hi Rahul,

As long as you are arriving prior to August 19th, you will be on campus in time to study. It can be helpful to arrive earlier so that you can begin to familiarize yourself with the area.

As far as housing, we do have a variety of option as both Univeristy and Private Certified housing. Please see the links below:

Many of our Engineering students are especially interested in our “Innovation” Living Learning Community; I would encourage you to check that out as well:

Are there profiles for finding roommates? I saw a little note when I applied for housing and it said to make sure my roommate profile was up to date but I dont know what that is or where to find it

March 30, 2015, 5:30 pm

Housing wise, I want to know more about the bathrooms. A few colleges that I toured had individual stalls for the girls showers. At least when my father went to UI there weren’t any partitioners for the men. So I was wondering the quality of the restrooms and the amount of privacy that you can get.

I just accepted my offer for admission and am super excited to be an Illini! Quick question about LLCs: If I join WIMSE, will I still be able to sign up for music lessons offered by Unit One?

Nikita Jain,

That’s a great question! I would encourage you to speak to housing for the best information: or 217.333.7111

I have just submitted my housing contract. I put Lincoln Hall Scholars Community as my top choice and Lincoln Hall as my second. Since I submitted this contract before the May 15 deadline, do I have a good chance of getting Lincoln Hall.

Thank you

Thanks and have a wonderful day!

April 15, 2015, 5:00 pm

Hello Mehdi,

I think that’s a better question for our Housing Office: They do to their best to accommodate student requests.

I am an incoming transfer student and I need to find a couple roommates to live with next year in an apartment on campus. Is there a facebook page or website I can go to look for roommates?

Hey, could you please help me with the meal plan? I’d like to have approximately 3 meals a day in the dining halls.

I’m choosing a room in Weston and I’d like to know whether there is a huge difference in choosing the rooms in north or south. Could you also briefly explain the co-head by wing system. How far are the rooms between the genders?

Thank you.
