How to: Make the most of Orange and Blue Days

I remember the first time I visited Illinois – I was a junior in high school and I came for an Orange and Blue Day. I had been dreaming about attending Illinois for years, but I had never actually been on the campus, so this was a make it or break it moment for me. Luckily, my expectations were met and even exceeded. I was amazed by all the campus and the community had to offer. What stuck out to me most was how genuinely happy the students I met were to be at Illinois.

If you are still considering whether you want to come on campus for a visit, I highly suggest that you do come if at all possible.  For more information on all of our different visit options, check out Liv’s blog post.

If you do choose to attend an Orange and Blue Day, here are some pieces of information to keep in mind:

Check the weather. Weather can be unpredictable, so you’ll definitely want to check the weather before you leave. It’s easy to have sunshine on a cloudy day at Illinois, as long as you’re prepared! I suggest packing an umbrella in any case just to be safe, and you’ll probably want to dress warmly in case it is cold. While we’re at it – wear comfortable shoes! Your feet will thank you.

Be sure to pay attention to our parking instructions. You will receive an email from us including detailed parking instructions. We are providing free parking specifically for Orange and Blue Day guests, so you’ll want to make sure you know about that!

Eat free lunch. Some of the Private Certified Housing units offer free lunch to visiting students and guests.  Need I say more?

Think about questions to ask current students. As I alluded to, meeting current students is one of the great advantages of coming to visit campus. Take some time to think about what information you’re hoping to gain on your visit, and feel free to ask any of the students you meet your questions!

Take advantage of all of the options. Orange and Blue Days are unique because there are a variety of informational sessions, tours, and walk-in hours you can choose from all day long. Don’t leave early unless you have to – take this day to meet with the academic department(s) you’re interested in, hear from University Housing and the Office of Student Financial Aid, go on tours, and more. We will provide you with an agenda when you arrive, so look it over and take note of everything you want to do during the day.

Ready to sign up? Our remaining Orange and Blue Days are on October 23rd, November 6th, and November 11th.  You can register here.
