Hi Rea,

I’m very worried about how my transcript and GPA will look to admissions officers. My high school GPA shows a downward trend. And I’m afraid it will sound like a last-ditch-effort-excuse if I say it is because I took on increasingly challenging courses, such as AP courses and moving up levels (from Standard+ to Honors) in chemistry and physics. I don’t know what to do?

Thank you for any help you may provide!

Hi Min,

I’m a fellow blogger and admissions counselor. You do need to be honest (and brief) in explaining how/why your grades fell. When we see a downward trend, it is concerning. However, we read student’s explanations with the mindset that they are being honest. When reviewing your academic history, it’s not our job to judge you, it’s our job to evaluate whether or not your are prepared academically for campus. I hope this helps a bit.

If you have further questions on this matter, please call our office: 217.333.0302.

Hi Ria,

My entire application is ready for the Priority Filling Deadline. It is only that I did the October 24th ACT exam and my scores might take some time to reach UIUC admissions. Is there any way to have my application pushed back for review, until my ACT scores arrive? Or is there any other solution? I have done the SAT twice already and sent them, but I feel pretty confident that my ACT score will come out much better than my SAT results.

Thank you

Hi Carl,
We need to have all application materials in our office in order for your application to be considered complete. Therefore, we will need at least one test score to complete your file. After your application is complete, we will continue to accept additional test scores until we release decisions in February. We will always use your highest test scores sent to us when reviewing your application.
Hope this helps! If you have additional questions, you can email us at admissions@illinois.edu or call us at 217-333-0302.

Dear Ria,

Will UIUC be relaxing the priority deadline for receipt of SAT scores at all? Many of us ordered SAT score reports weeks ago but due to some problems at the College Board, SAT score reports have not gone out yet.

Is there any hope for students who requested official score reports well before November 1 and submitted their application by November 1 to receive full consideration as priority applicants even if the College Board is late sending those score reports? Is there anything these applicants can do to enable them to be fully considered for all scholarships and honors?

Thank you,

Hi Eric,

Thanks for checking in! We are aware of the delay in the September score reports. Due to this delay, the admissions office will be as accommodating as possible in accepting these scores. If you have ACT or SAT scores from earlier test dates, you should submit these scores as soon as possible in order to complete your application by the priority deadline. There is no negative impact of sending a lower score now. Your September scores will be added to your application when we receive the official score report. The scores will appear on the status page of your myIllini account once they are processed.

I hope this helps,
