Tips for December 16

Hi y’all,

First, congratulations for being a part of our Early Action applicant pool! We had FANTASTIC applicants, and we are eagerly waiting to update your status on December 16 (I’m sure you’re eagerly waiting, too!).

It’s a big day, and I want to pass along some recommendations and advice.

Please, please, please make sure you can access your myIllini account before December 16. You can reset your password by clicking “Forgot your username or password.” If you are having trouble logging into your account, please call us (you may get to talk to me!).

Patience is a virtue. We anticipate myIllini will operate slightly slower on December 16 because of the number of applicants logging on to view their status. Here’s what you can do:

  • If you are experiencing some delays, please do not continue to hit the refresh button (it really won’t help).
  • You should be the only one logging into your account. If your family and friends are also trying to view your decision, you will be waiting together longer.
  • Check social media, watch the mid-season finale of your favorite show, take a power nap, or eat a snack and come back to your account a bit later.

When you log in on the 16th, you’ll see one of three statuses on your application status page: admit, deny, or defer. Check out our website for more information about different decisions.

This is an exciting time! As always, please feel free to contact our office with any questions (shameless plug to follow me on twitter @kaci_uofi).

Hi Bcc, Amit, and Jason!

We won’t have any official information or numbers about this years admitted class for Fall 2017 until next September when the 10th day enrollment numbers are published. Right now, the best information regarding admitted class profiles including questions about the level of competitiveness by college can be found on our website. These numbers show the middle 50% of freshmen admitted in Fall 2016, meaning that 25% of students were below this range and 25% were above. Some programs may have admitted at a more competitive level.

Hey Emily,

Yes! You will receive an email that a decision has been posted to your myIllini status page. Then, you will have to log into your myIllini account and click on your application to view the decision.

Hi Giovanna,

Yes, we are still accepting applications after the December 1 deadline. However, the application could close at any time! I would highly (really, highly) recommend that you submit an application as soon as possible if you are interested in Illinois.

Hey Lydia,

If students are denied, they will be given specific information about the transfer process after attending another college or university, as well information about how to appeal a decision. Hope this helps!

Hi!

I did the Research Apprentice Program through the college of ACES. Does that have any effect on whether we are admitted or denied?

Does a higher score on the maths section of the ACT give you an advantage for admission into the college of engineering? (even if the composite score is comparatively lower)

Kaci

December 15, 2016, 8:51 am

Hi B,

RAP is an awesome program! We do consider activities and awards as part of our review process. Did you include RAP on your application? If not, email admissions@illinois.edu and we will add it to your application. Hope this helps!

It is more than awesome! (& also I’m quite excited!) It will be a big day after my 18th birthday. Be optimistic!

Kaci

December 15, 2016, 8:57 am

Hi Hariharan,

We do look at the individual sections of the ACT and SAT as part of our review. If you have taken the ACT multiple times, we will use the best score in each area, as well as the best composite. For specific programs, we will look more closely at a related area of the ACT. So yes, a strong ACT math score is important when applying to the College of Engineering.

Hey Yuliang,

Awesome!! I hope you have a great birthday 🙂

Hi Matt,

That is a great question. Your notice of admission will include the program and college in which you were admitted. Best of luck!

Hi Kaci,

From the website https://admissions.illinois.edu/Apply/Freshman/dates, it says the notification for an honors program and scholarship is by April.

If a student is admitted, what’s the earliest day he could receive the admission to honors programs and for merit awards?

Thanks a lot.

Grace

December 16, 2016, 8:56 am

Hi Sangita,

We holistically review each application we receive. We look at test scores, GPA, rigor, activities, essay, and honors/awards. To check out our admitted profile for last year, see our website. We also break down the admitted profile by college. Best of luck today!

Kaci

December 16, 2016, 9:01 am

Hey Grace,

April is likely the latest students will find out about honors programs and scholarships. But students may find out as early as today (at 4:00 p.m.!). Continue to send questions my way!

Grace

Thanks for your reply. Have a nice day!

Approximately how many early apps did you review this year? Was it more or less than in years past? Also, what percentage was accepted? Again, normal or high/low?

Kaci

December 16, 2016, 10:16 am

Hi August,

We have a record number of applications and have already surpassed last year’s total number of applications. Our admissions rate last year was approximately 60%, but we will not have official final application, admit, and enroll numbers for this year until September 2017; the competitiveness for admission is similar to last year. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Ray

December 16, 2016, 11:22 am

Hi Kaci,
So what exactly should I expect to see when I log into myIllini today? Will there be a letter? Or just a change in application status? Are international students mailed their letters and admission packets, if admitted?

Kaci

December 16, 2016, 11:31 am

Hi Ray,

When you log into myIllini, you’ll have to click on your application (similar to how you checked whether or not you received test scores). You will then see your decision! We will send an email when a decision has been posted, however you will have to log into your account to view the decision. If students are admitted, a Notice of Admission letter will be posted electronically to you myIllini account.

Hi Kaci
I would like to know when approximatly will the status uploading process be completed? In other words, how much time will I possibly have to wait after 4:00p.m. CST? As a CN student that reallly matters…

Kaci

December 16, 2016, 12:12 pm

Hey J,

All decisions will be uploaded and available today at4:00 p.m. (CST). While we anticipate myIllini to be operating slower, you can log in at 4 to view your decision. Just be sure to not click “refresh” too many times, as it will cause the system to run slower for everyone. Best of luck!

Hey y’all,

Today can be super stressful, I get that. Check out our homepage for some ways to de-stress http://admissions.illinois.edu/

Also, I promise to post cute puppy videos on Twitter to help alleviate some stress before 4:00 @kaci_uofi

Can applicants who have been deferred submit their latest SAT/ACT scores and what is the date by which they need to send these scores to UIUC?

L

December 17, 2016, 3:51 pm

Hi, so happy to be accepted! Wondering, under my name on my acceptance page there are two scholarships posted. Does this mean I am eligible for these scholarships, or have I been awarded them already? Thank you.

Kaci

December 19, 2016, 11:37 am

Hi Hariharan,

Yes! Applicants who were deferred are able to submit additional ACT/SAT test scores to our office. To be considered in the review, we need to receive those scores by February 3. Hope this helps!

Kaci

Hi L,

Congratulations! You have been awarded the scholarships listed on your myIllini profile!
