How To: Plan Your Summer Campus Visit!

Hey #FutureIllini!

As you are winding down the school year, we hope you will include a visit to Illinois as part of your summer plans! Here’s everything you need to know about planning your summer visit. While we do have some transfer specific programs*, most of these visits are targeted for rising seniors and their guests (I’m looking at you #ILLINOIS2022).

First, go ahead and save this link.

If you are planning to visit Monday-Friday from May 15-July 7, you will register for a Prospective Daily Visit.

We offer Prospective Daily Visits at 10:00 a.m. Monday-Thursday and at 10:00 a.m. AND 1:00 p.m. on Fridays most weeks. Your visit will start with an admissions presentation (maybe by me!) in Spurlock Museum, and then you will take a tour of campus, including a residence hall. We also offer you the availability to request a meeting with a specific college or department and participate in a tour of the Engineering Quad at 2:00 p.m. As always, our admissions counselors are available for walk-in appointments at anytime during your visit from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the Admissions and Records Building.

If you are planning to visit from July 10-August 4, you’ll be attending a Summer Visit.

Summer Visits offer the same experience as a Daily Visit, except we will start in the Alice Campbell Alumni Center at 10:00 a.m. for the presentation and then head out on tour. In addition, you can check out a residence hall room, and we have some pre-scheduled meetings with various units most days, including Engineering, Business, Division of General Studies, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Architectural Studies. No fear! You are able to request a meeting if your interest area isn’t listed.

In addition to the scheduled activities (presentation, tours, and meetings), I want to highlight some other things happening in and around campus so you have a full day at Illinois!

  • Tour the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 East Peabody Drive, Champaign, IL 61820 (be sure to bring your state-issued ID)
  • Visit our Cultural and Resource Centers
  • Visit the Office of Student Financial Aid, 620 East John Street, Champaign, IL 61820
  • Enjoy a meal! There are some great options in the Illini Union, and on Green Street and the greater Champaign-Urbana area (including chains and some of our local favorites)

Be prepared for all sorts of central Illinois weather (sunglasses, sunscreen, umbrellas, etc.) and wear comfortable walking shoes. We hope to see you this summer!

*Transfers: Keep your eye out for our Transfer Information Sessions TBA!

Admissions Counselor
I work extensively with our large campus visit programs to give our prospective students first-hand experience of life at Illinois. I grew up in and around Champaign-Urbana, but most recently I moved from northwest Ohio, where I finished my master’s degree in College Student Personnel.
