Connect with us on Social Media!

If you’re reading this…you’ve already started to connect with us on social media! As admissions counselors, we really try and reach prospective students and their families wherever works best for them. So whether it’s at your high school, on a campus visit, phone call, email, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and, of course, our blog we are here to answer your questions and discuss the things that are most important to you.

Beyond phone calls (217-333-0302) or email (, there are lots of ways to get information and ask questions.

Twitter…I’ll admit, I wasn’t a big twitter fan before I started with Illinois, but now I love it! It’s a great way to share concise information and you can follow accounts for your specific interest. Here are my top three University of Illinois twitter accounts:

  1. Illinois Admissions @uofiadmissions (obviously): We share some great information about the application process (including a reminder to send your test scores). And you won’t miss a single blog post!
  2. Illini Service Dogs @Illinidogs: because they are just the cutest AND they all have Illinois-themed names, like Newman (see below)
  3. Univ. of Illinois @Illinois_Alma: Their profile says it best “All the latest from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. To thy happy children of the future, those of the past send greetings.” They also share a lot of great information from other accounts across campus like academic colleges and athletics.
  4. Kaci Abolt @kaci_uofi: I had to. Like I said, I’ve really liked tweeting as a way to connect with prospective students, families, and counselors about travel, campus visits, and more. And you can also learn about my latest choice for nail polish and TV shows.

Some honorable mention accounts include other admissions counselors (S/O @Amber_uofI), volleyball head coach Tamas (@coachtamas), and @askundergrad, the account for the University of Illinois Undergraduate Library.

Snapchat…because what is more fun? Current students will take over the account for a story about some campus happening, from a career fair, to a football game, or college event. My personal favorite was our National Selfie Day story and Illini from across the world, literally, shared their picture. @uofillinois

.We have a B-E-A-Utiful campus! And we love showcasing the seasons on our Instagram account, @illiniview.

Facebook@IllinoisAdmissions. We love responding to questions via Facebook, and we do a lot of Facebook Live events to interact with counselors. Last year, we did a Facebook Live Q&A all in Spanish, how cool?! You can see all of the past live events in the “Videos” tab.

So, for all of you social media experts, or this is the first time you’ve heard about Snapchat, I hope you have found a new way to connect with Illinois! As always, please feel free to share questions or comments below.

But really, @kaci_uofi

Admissions Counselor
I work extensively with our large campus visit programs to give our prospective students first-hand experience of life at Illinois. I grew up in and around Champaign-Urbana, but most recently I moved from northwest Ohio, where I finished my master’s degree in College Student Personnel.
