Weekend with the BFFL was a Drag

I spent the entirety of my weekend coughing, sneezing and wheezing from whatever illness is rampantly taking over this campus. It kept me in a few nights, but I couldn’t let it stop me too much, because we had some visitors this weekend!

That is my friend, Ivan (from here on referred to as “the bffl“). He came from Chicago to hang out and celebrate our friend’s birthday. They make fun of me, because whenever he’s come to visit, I’ve always had an itinerary ready to go, complete with activities planned from the second the Amtrak pulls up. Seeing as I was under the weather, I didn’t have my usual game plan prepared, but we did alright for having no plans.

We spent some time at Cafe Paradiso on Lincoln Ave. Allow me to bear my inner hipster for a moment and admit that I really dig this place and I didn’t think it’d be a bad idea to stop by with the bffl. We played our usual Scrabble game over a couple of overpriced drinks, and I got my butt handed to me when he, for the first time ever, played our only Scrabble house rule, “any legitimate play of the word ‘boxen’ (the plural of “box”) is worth 1,000,000 points.” I lost the game with a measly 278 to 1,000,201 points.

Sunday night, we made our way to C-Street for the weekly drag show. Lucky for us, this week was a fundraiser for one of our favorite drag queens from our weekly drag show back at home, Phoenix O’hara. So she and a few of her friends made their way down from Chicago and really put on a show, one of the best I’ve seen since I’ve been living here. Phoenix is the reigning Miss Champaign USofA and will be competing for the title of Miss Illinois soon.

And how could our drag night be complete if we hadn’t rented and watched Paris is Burning? Big ups to the locally owned and operated That’s Rentertainment for actually carrying that title since it’s one of the few I couldn’t find at the library! :)

I was wondering what the visiting hours were for the residence halls? If you could tell me or give me a link, it would be very appreciated. Thanks
