Physics and Math are Related?
With little over a week until fall break, classes are starting to wrap up. I have three midterms to study for and then I’ll be completely free for a week. Today I was studying for my PHYS211 midterm and my MATH241 midterm and I started to realize that the classes were extremely similar. If you’re lucky enough that this works in your schedule, I would suggest taking the classes concurrently, because understanding what inertia actually is helps you understand why taking the double integral of a x squared and y squared multiplied by a density function about a region actually works. Taking related classes concurrently can sometimes split your workload in half if you can study one subject that relates to both classes.
Of course the class relations aren’t just the obvious ones like math and physics. Surprisingly enough, the Composition I class, RHET105 is meant to help all disciplines, including engineering. Writing is one of the most important skills a professional can have, and RHET105: Principles of Composition, is meant to help everyone become a better writer. Research papers and lab reports become easier to write once you understand the basics of composition. Although it is great to take related classes, it also helps to broaden your horizons once in a while, which is why I’m taking a French class next semester. It will probably in no way help me get a better grade in my engineering classes, but who knows how it will help in the future?

Kristen,
Sorry this response took so long. I’m glad you’re thinking of UIUC because I really enjoy being here. I was contacted by my high school counselor with the opportunity and I just applied for the spot. There was an interview and I was chosen the summer before I started classes.
Thanks for the post,
Evan

Hi, almost namesake. Just wanted to say thumbs up. Engineering’s my aim too.

Hi Evan,
I just wanted to mention that I love your blog; it’s really informative and fun to read. Thanks for taking the time to write it. I’m hoping to attend UIUC next year and was wondering how you were selected to be a blogger. Did you have to apply for the position?
Thanks,
Kristen
