The Career Search Is Over!

For the last 3 months, I have worked extremely hard interviewing with companies. I attended several job fairs and office visits with companies of interest. In all honesty, this has been one of the hardest semesters for me. For the past month I have traveled at least 3 times a week. I wasn’t on campus very much, and I still had homework assignments and exams to complete. One saying I live by is, it it were easy, everyone would do it. My number one priority is to do well in school, this is why I am at the University of Illinois. Even though I have traveled so much, I had to find ways to put my studies first and prepare for my interviews. This sometimes meant that I did not get as much sleep as I needed the night before my interview or exam. This is just something I had to deal with. I find that if I prepare in advance for my exams, I will perform much better.

As a senior, another goal of mine is to find a job. Interviewing is very important in the job search. It is something you just have to prepare for. The good news is that my job search is over. With all the interviews and office visits I participated in, I am proud to say that I am working for a company that values me and my skill sets.  A company that also understands the importance of work/life balance. I am excited for what my future holds. I am very blessed for the opportunities I have.

Finding a job and doing well in school is difficult because the job search is a full time job, just like school. If you ever have any questions regarding this or how to balance life’s activities please let me know. I have learned some very helpful time management skills during college that help me to overcome the challenges I face.

I am trying to find the undergrad online application and I came across your post. I feel exactly the way you felt. With college applications and tests and essays, it is so hard to focus on anything. I am getting pressure from everywhere, it feels like my world is actually breaking apart. I see the light at the end of the tunnel but it’s still far away. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Good luck,

Kevin

Kevin,

Everything is going to be just fine! Just hang in there and do the best you can. You can tell the strength of a true leader from how he/she acts under pressure.

Congrats Ashton!

I saw that you are a finance major and I plan on becoming a finance major as well. I was wondering what sort of company you are working with and the type of job you have found.

Once again, good job!

Hello Mustafa,

I have no clue why my profile says that I am in finance. I am really in Accounting and Technology and Management (engineering).

After I graduate I will work for a consulting firm working as a technology analyst.

I like technology!

The great thing about accounting is that you have so many opportunities. The College of Business has a great accounting program. Very prestigious.

Hello David,

I am excited for you as well. Keep me posted.

I would say, make sure you write down everything you have to do for a specific day. The more organized you are, the more you know where you time is going. This is important because as a college student your time is very limited - there is so much to do!

Plan out everything. Have a study schedule. To be successfully you will have to study.

The main problem college students face is poor time management. No matter what institution you attend there will always be distractions, parties, social events, etc… Know that this is always going to be another party and another social event.studying comes first! Plan your social events around your studying. This piece of advice has worked well for me.

I like the questions, feel free to keep them coming.
