Tony's Bio

Hello, everyone!

My name is Tony and I am a senior first-generation, non-traditional, transfer student studying Advertising in the College of Media. I grew up in Pleasant Hill, Illinois and spent nearly ten years recording and touring all over North America as a professional musician. (My band even has a song titled Illinois)

When I decided to make my career change and pursue an advertising education it was very important to me that I get the best value and return on my investment. Equally as important to me was attending an institution that is world-renowned for its academic reputation and a campus environment that feels inclusive to someone like myself. Naturally, Illinois was the perfect fit as it checked off all of those boxes and so many more.

Although I am a transfer student, my Illinois education and experience has been overwhelmingly rewarding. I have been able to learn from and work alongside some of the most brilliant and talented people both inside and outside of the classroom since arriving here. I have been welcomed into the University of Illinois campus community by everyone here and I am so proud to be an Illini!

In addition to writing for this blog, I am also active with the American Advertising Federation chapter here on campus (the largest chapter in the nation), where I serve as a Vice-President executive chair and oversee the student advertising committee “On the House.” I am also a member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society. In my free time, I enjoy going to the Art Theater in downtown Champaign, attending live music performances around campus, and grabbing coffee with my fellow advertising friends.

I hope that my blogs are insightful to all audiences, but if you are a prospective first-generation student, transfer student, or non-traditional student then my hope is that my blogs are especially relevant to you as you continue to explore all of the amazing opportunities that the University of Illinois has to offer.
