This is a difficult topic for me to blog about. For one, I am a self-proclaimed lover of school (that’s a euphemism for nerd). And secondly, this is my junior year and I can say that this semester is the first semester in which I have a class that is just genuinely uninteresting.
It’s a basic fact of life that some things will attract your attention more than others. No one in the whole world enjoys learning about everything, right?
The fact that I literally dread going to this class every Monday and Wednesday got me thinking, and I’ve decided that this class does NOT need to be this dull and uninspiring. The problem that this class has is that it is just not set up right. What I mean by this is that my professor, who shall remain nameless, simply stands up in the front of the room and reads PowerPoint slides (which are immediately put up online after class). There is no engagement or enthusiasm at all, the information and class itself, are treated with a monotonous triviality.
Here are some quick tips to keep you awake in class:
–coffee is your best friend
-get as much sleep the night before as possible
-try your best not to take 8 am classes, those are inherently tough to get through
-take notes by hand, this forces you to be mentally present
And finally, you are paying a lot to be here so you might as well get the most out of it. Don’t take classes based on rumored difficulty, take them because you are genuinely interested in them! Of course, some required courses are simply inescapably but you do have a lot of choice in your class schedule, take advantage of that.
Let me know if you have any questions!
