Transfer Student Campus Life
Hey transfer students!
As the fall semester quickly approaches, I am sure that many of you are feeling excited, yet overwhelmed. I have been in your shoes. There is so much to plan for and think about as you are about to embark on a new adventure at a new institution. One question you may have is: How can I get involved with campus life at Illinois? Well, I am here to provide you some tips, tricks, and advice to navigating all of the resources available to you as an Illini!
Your first stop to becoming acclimated to campus will be Transfer Fall Orientation 2016. Transfer Student Orientation is designed to help transfer students learn to how to navigate campus, find out more about academic support units, and learn about joining Registered Student Organizations. This Orientation will take place in Foellinger Auditorium on, Sunday, August 21, 2016. Check-in begins at 10:00 am, and the program will be held from 10:30 am to Noon, which will lead directly into Quad Day.
Quad Day is the perfect opportunity to explore all of the diverse opportunities available for becoming involved in the campus community, especially Registered Student Organizations. Illinois has over 1,400 organizations, so you are sure to find one that excites you! There are even organizations specifically designed for transfer students. For example, the Tau Sigma National Honor Society is designed to recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students. By exploring UofIConnections, you will be able to find an organization that fits your needs and have the opportunity to meet other students with similar interests.
There will be other transfer students to assist you with the orientation process. Illini Transfer Ambassadors are transfer students just like you! They work to help new transfer students make a smooth transition from their previous institution to life at Illinois. You can learn more about Illini Transfer Ambassadors and other transfer student programs hosted by New Student Programs here.
Once on campus, there will be a lot of activities going on during the school year. The Illini Union sponsors events including open mic nights, weekend films, bowling, and comedy shows, just to name a few. Check out their calendar to find out about upcoming events! Also, if you’re full of Illini pride, you can join one of the student cheering sections at Illinois sporting events, or you can just cheer on the teams with friends and family. Either way, Fighting Illini Athletics provide more opportunities to become involved in campus life.
I hope this information will be helpful as you navigate campus life at Illinois. We are so excited for the Fall 2016 semester to get underway!
