Why I Love Advertising

When I transferred from the Division of General Studies into the College of Media at the end of my freshman year, I was ready to learn all I could about advertising, my new major. Since then, my love for advertising has grown each and every day. The knowledge that I have gained through my classes and internship experiences has been tremendously valuable. This knowledge and experience has given me the tools to fully embrace what I love about advertising. I have discovered that advertising is the perfect mixture of business and media.

If you love business but don’t love math, advertising is for you. If you appreciate products and love drawing, advertising is for you. When you find yourself in love with words and their ability to inspire people, advertising is for you. A desire for long days and nights of brainstorming fresh ideas makes you perfect for advertising. No matter what angle you come from, if you have a passion and purpose for your love of advertising, then you will do great in this major.

There are an abundance of amazing majors to choose from at Illinois, but I am beyond thrilled to call advertising mine. I hope all future advertising majors discover what makes this major so important and lovable. It is a major of creativity and a culture of excitement that will inspire and motivate you to a new height of excellence in what you do. If all this sounds like something special, it’s because it is. Advertising delivers on each promise that it makes to be the major for you.
