Being an Illini Sports Fan during COVID-19

One of the major disruptions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, was access to live sports. As a manager for the women’s volleyball team, this really threw a big wrench into my daily life. My fellow managers and friends on the team hoped and prayed that we would have a season that would eventually never come. Now, as hopes for a vaccine are becoming a reality instead of a dream, more and more schools are gearing up to compete this spring. Though it won’t be the same as a normal year, here is how to celebrate the orange and blue as they start competing.

B1G Network

Our campus has free access to the B1G Network. Whether you are in your dorm room, the dining hall, or any on-campus building, simply log on to BTN on your laptop and you can stream any game that the Illini are playing in.

Virtual Games to Play Over Zoom—Online Games to Play on Zoom

To make it a socially distanced watch party with your friends, hop on to Zoom and watch the game! Share your BTN screen so you can cheer along with your friends and sing the Alma Mater at halftime!

Illini Pride

Illini Pride is one of the biggest student organizations on campus – a place where dedicated and die-hard Illini students can come together to cheer on the Fighting Illini. This year, Illini Pride is offering a lottery system to attend Football and Men’s Basketball Games. After the purchase of a $50 membership, students will be entered into a lottery each week where they could win the chance to purchase tickets and attend Illini games in-person! The lottery system works for groups of 2-8 members so this is a great opportunity to have some fun with friends!

During such a unique and challenging time, the entire student body at the University of Illinois has been exceptional in the fight against COVID-19. As the fight continues and sports are coming back, the university has been great at offering ways for us to support our student-athletes and cheer on the Illini!
