I’m ready to Zoom! Are you?

Where’s the motivation?

I don’t know about you, but coming back from break was a bit more difficult this year. Any other year, I’d be excited about the chance to come back to campus, be reunited with my friends, and start a whole new set of classes. This time around, it was different. It was knowing that all of my classes would be on Zoom again that made coming back second semester different this year.

I was feeling the weight of the pandemic and was tired just thinking about sitting at my desk with a laptop in front of me in my dorm room everyday for another semester. The motivation was lacking, but I knew I was not alone in this. As college students living in a pandemic-stricken world, we’ve all felt its weight and the exhaustion that comes along with it.

Motivation needed to be found, and it didn’t take long.

How’d I fix it?

I bought myself a new planner for the year and I took a couple of hours to write out my class schedule. Then I found time within each day to do at least 2 things that would bring me joy. I made time for FaceTime coffee dates with friends or to go on a run. I even put a block of time in my schedule to turn off the computer and not focus on school.

Finding that motivation was more difficult than normal. All it took was beginning to get my priorities in line to help slowly get it back. I encourage you to remind yourself that you are not alone in it, it feels a little bit more bearable. Our professors do not want to have to teach us on Zoom, and we don’t want to be on Zoom anymore, but that isn’t reality right now.

We will get through it if we all just choose to take one step forward everyday. We can do it.
